Two arrested with smack

The Dera Bassi police arrested two drug peddlers with 10 gm of smack at Bhankarpur today.  According to  sources, a police team arrested Amrit Pal Singh and Gurvinder Singh, both residents of Bhabhat village near Zirakpur, and seized 10 gm of smack from them.

After receiving information about activities of drug peddlers and addicts in the town, Mohali SSP Gurpreet Singh Bhullar had directed DSP Arshdeep Singh and Station House Officer (SHO) Tarlochan Singh to step up the vigil.  

According to reports, the police party, led by Kewal Singh, ASI, laid a naka at Bhankarpur and during the checking got hold of the accused.

Arshdeep Singh said the campaign launched by the district police against drug peddlers and anti-social elements was gaining momentum. 

He said people had also started providing information about drug peddlers and anti-social elements. The preliminary investigation revealed that Amritpal and Gurvinder were kingpin of a gang that had been involved in illegal trafficking of narcotics for the past several years and used to collect money from the local youth and get drugs for them.

The police have also sent 12 students to a de-addiction centre. The arrested persons revealed that they had formed a gang in the area. The reportedly confessed that five others- Love, a resident of Mohali, Kamal, a resident of Shahabad, Lamba, a resident of Pinjore, Punjabi, a resident of Zirakpur, and Sandhu were invloved in this business.

The police have constituted a team to arrest the remaining gang members. A case under the The Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NSPS)Act has been registered against seven persons at the Dera Bassi police station.
