New Delhi, July 1

A high-ranking CRPF officer allegedly committed suicide at his residence in a force camp in Tilak Nagar here.

The incident was reported yesterday after Rakesh Kumar, second in-command of 5th battalion of Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) was found hanging from the ceiling by his wife at their residence within the camp, officials said.

Kumar was taken to a hospital, where he was declared dead by the doctors, they said, adding a Court of Inquiry has been ordered in this connection.

No suicide note was found from the spot, officials said.

“Kumar was the deputy chief of the unit and this is very rare that such a senior officer has committed suicide in the force. The reasons for him taking the extreme step are being investigated. There are reports about some issues in the family but nothing could be clearly said before an inquiry is conducted,” the officials added.

Kumar was a resident of Ambala in Haryana. — PTI
