Mohali, July 25
The Mohali Deputy Commissioner's report on illegal mining at Khizrabad and Kubbaheri villages here has no mention of any political leader's involvement.
In the 80-page report, which was sent to the Punjab Chief Commissioner today, Mohali Deputy Commissioner Gurpreet Kaur Sapra stated that nearly 100 acres in the area were under illegal mining for the past over 10 years. The report pointed out that seven of the 27 stone crushers and screening plants in the area were being run illegally, but there was no mention about the ownership of these.
The source of raw material of these stone crushers and screening plants needed to be checked, the report stated.
However, it is an open secret that some of the crushers are owned by Congress and Akali leaders of the area.
“We did not go into names or ownership. Illegal mining is continuing in the area despite the fact that 67 FIRs have already been registered in this regard. We have recommended a high-level inquiry to the higher authorities,” said Sapra.
