District admn, police on alert

With the verdict on a case involving Dera Sacha Sauda chief Gurmeet Ram Rahim Singh going to be pronounced at a CBI special court in Panchkula, Haryana, on August 25, the Patiala police today carried out a flag march to keep the law and order situation under control in the district.

Special nakas have been set up across the district to ensure that no untoward incident takes place.

Paramilitary forces, including Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Rapid Action Force (RAF), also took part in the flag march, along with commando units.

The march, which started from the city, went through various parts of the Model Town, Civil Lines, Bhupindra Road, Old City area and other parts of the city. Hundreds of armed police personnel and soldiers of paramilitary forces were part of the march.

SP, City, Kesar Singh, and the DSP, City 1, and the DSP, City 2, were seen leading the flag march, along with SHOs, of all police stations of the Patiala City and in-charges of police posts and PCR constables with PCR van and PCR motorcycles.

“The idea behind the flag march was to instill a sense of security among people as well as to maintain law and order in the city,” said senior officials.

“Every vehicle will be checked by the police before entering the city. We are also increasing the nakabandi,” they said.

Till the next three days, the Patiala police will carry out flag marches across the district and paramilitary personnel will be deployed at various points.

In a meeting held here today, Patiala District Magistrate said 63 executive magistrates had been deployed in the district and they would execute their powers in case of any emergency. Further Section 144 under the IPC had been imposed that prohibits assembly of five or more persons in an area.

Leaves of all officials of the district administration and the police have been cancelled and they had been been asked to report back on duty. Further, medical teams have been formed at the sub-divisional level. The meeting was attended by various officers, including SDM, SPs and other officials posted in the district.
