Grover family set an example for others, Rachit, who was student of Class XII, Vivek High School, died due to head injuries after a road accident on Sunday. His kidneys, pancreas and liver were transplanted to patients on first-come-first-serve basis by the PGI authorities.
Professor Ashish Sharma, PGI, who did the surgery of the organ transplantation, said it was really motivating that the family pledged their organs for donation. He said those patients were stable to whom the organs of Rachit were transplanted. He said besides creating awareness about the organ donation among the public, the need is to increase the number of retrieve organ hospitals in the North India.
He remarked still a lot has to be done to motivate people to donate organs. As per the records of the PGI till date four of the patients of pancreas got donors, 18 received livers from donors for transplantation and 150 patients received kidney donors. — TNS
