Former Prime Minister and noted economist Dr Manmohan Singh will start teaching at his alma mater Panjab University (PU) here soon. He is finalising his teaching schedule and will send it to the PU Vice-Chancellor (VC), Prof Arun Kumar Grover, souces told Chandigarh Tribune here today. Recently, a parliamentary panel had given its nod to Dr Singh for holding the Jawaharlal Nehru Chair of the PU.

After Prof Grover gave a detailed presentation to the parliamentary panel in New Delhi in which representatives of Finance, Human Resources Development and Law Ministries were also present, the approval was given to Dr Singh to go ahead and accept the Chair of the PU as it was not an office of profit.

Now, the communication of approval will be sent to the Rajya Sabha, which will further send it to Dr Singh, who will then finalise the date of his visit to the PU and convey it to the VC.

The VC said as the parliamentary panel had approved the proposal of holding the Chair on the campus, the university was waiting for Dr Singh’s confirmation about the date of his visit in the coming month.

Dr Singh has already shared his idea about his visit with the VC. During the visit, he is keen to interact with students and faculty members.

The VC further said that suggestions on the topic of the discussion would be sought from senior professors and students. And after going through these, Dr Singh will finally decide on the topic.
