The Panchkula Municipal Corporation (MC) will hold a draw of lots to decide names of lucky sanitary workers, who will go on a study tour of the top 10 cleanest cities in the country.

A decision in this regard was taken on Sunday, when the MC Commissioner-cum-Administrator, Rajesh Jogpal, held a meeting with officials of the sanitary wing. In the meeting, it was decided to hold open draw in presence of sanitary workers and finalise names accordingly for the study tour.

When contacted, Jogpal said the decision to hold draw of lots was taken to bring transparency in finalising names for the study tour. “We will give due representation to women sanitary workers too. As many as 100 MC safai karamcharis, including supervisors, will be sent to the top 10 cleanest cities in the country,” he added.

“In the first phase, they will cover top two cities Indore and Bhopal. Subsequently, they will hold meeting with the Chandigarh MC team, as the City Beautiful is ranked third in the country,” he said.

“The exposure will also lift morale of sanitary workers as they are the real heroes of Panchkula not officials,” said Jogpal. “A group of sanitary workers will hold meeting with elected representatives of these cities,” he added.
