Chandigarh, May 28

Rajkumar (17), a student of commerce, wants to become a chartered accountant and has started in the right direction by securing 91 per cent marks in CBSE Class XII examinations. Rajkumar, a driver’s son, is a student of DAV Senior Secondary School (Lahore), Sector 8, here.

Rajkumar’s father Ghanshyam Saini has been a driver for the past 25 years when he moved to Chandigarh from Yamunanagar. While Ghanshyam studied till Class V, his wife is illiterate. While he drove taxis for most of the years, he has just been employed as a private driver. His family of four now lives in a two-room set in Sector 8, where he works as a driver and his wife as a domestic help.

Rajkumar said he had the dream of becoming a CA for a while now but didn’t think that it could be nursed. His father’s employer, who happens to be a professor at Chandigarh College of Architecture, motivated him to pursue his dreams. He has also been working at a CA office in Sector 35.

Fond of badminton, Rajkumar is a well-mannered introvert. His father says he has never received a complaint about his son and he has assured him full support in all his endeavours. His employer, who is out of country at the moment, has told Saini to buy whatever gift he demands and not to worry about finances. Rajkumar says he does not want anything.

Rajkumar loves accounts and wakes up at 6 am each day to study the subject. He chuckles that when his parents are not at home, he studies accounts all night.

Rajkumar’s mother Saroj Saini is proud that her son also helps her in household work by running errands. Rajkumar has a 22-year-old sister who is a graduate and works at a bank. — TNS
