The UT Police today used three unmanned aerial vehicles, aka drones, for surveillance at the busy Sector 22, Sector 15 and Sector 17 markets. The police said the drones would be regularly used during the festive season.

Around 300 additional policemen along with teams from different police stations were deputed for the task this evening. The policemen, equipped with metal detractors and others tools, carried out the operation. The busy markets, parking lots and roads were put on surveillance.

The police first used the drones in Sector 15 and then in the Sector 22 market. The drones were simultaneously used at the Sector 17 market. The operation went on for around one and a half hours. “It was a trial today. In the coming festive season, these drones will be used properly,” said SP (Law & Order) Roshan Lal.
