PANCHKULA: A day after the Panchkula police arrested a man carrying drugs and Rs 1.58 lakh in Sector 16, the accused, Om Prakash, fled from police custody.

A day after the Panchkula police arrested a man carrying drugs and Rs 1.58 lakh in Sector 16, the accused, Om Prakash, fled from police custody. He had gone with a team to identify his accomplices at the Sector 16/17 chowk here today. Interestingly, three of his accomplices, who had reportedly come to rescue Om Prakash, were caught by the police, but the driver and Om Prakash fled in a Honda City car.

A police team from the Sector 16 police post had taken Om Prakash for some recovery in the case and to identify his accomplices. Sources said the accused’s accomplices were called for delivery to the spot so that the police could immediately nab them with the contraband. The youths had just got down from the car when Om Prakash pushed a policeman, Balwant, and fled. Later in the evening, the driver, Jitender, a resident of Sector 21, Chandigarh, was caught by the police from Chandigarh and the Honda city car was also recovered.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Anil Dhawan said Jitender had been arrested while the other two were being questioned.

The mobile location showed Om Prakash in Barwala following which nakas were set up by the police.

“Om Prakash pointed towards four guys as his regular suppliers at the spot. Two policemen went towards them in a car. Only one policeman was left with Om Prakash. Taking advantage, Om Prakash pushed him and fled,” said a police official.Yesterday,  the police and a team of the Drugs Control Department had nabbed Om Prakash with a contraband, prohibited capsules and Rs 1.58 lakh on a bicycle. He was going towards Rajiv Colony in Sector 16 when he was arrested. A case under the NDPS Act was registered against him.  He is a resident of Sector 56, Chandigarh.
