Chandigarh, April 28

Eighteen students of the Bhai Jaitajee Foundation (BJF) have cleared the JEE (Main) this year. Seventeen of the total students are in the top 7.5 per cent of candidates at the all-India level. The BJF students have recorded a pass percentage of 82.

Out of the 20 successful students, seven are girls—making an average of 35 per cent against a national average of less than 20 per cent for girls. Eight of the 20 students who qualified belong to OBC/ SC categories. And all except one have scored more than 81 marks, the cut-off for general category students.

Cooperation has been lent by St Soldier School, Sector 28, Chandigarh, for the EWS category students.

About the foundation

  • The Bhai Jaitajee Foundation (BJF) is a non-profit organisation that gives scholarships to bright yet underprivileged students from rural Punjab. The organisation provides free schooling, boarding, lodging and coaching to deserving students from the medical and engineering fields thereby creating a level playing field for aspirants who do not only have economic constraints but also suffer from opportunity deficits, gender discrimination and caste bias.
  • The students here tackle a double challenge of clearing the CBSE Class XII exam along with preparing for JEE (Main/ Advanced).
