The library of Panjab University’s department of psychology is a place where the students can get books only for reference as issuing of books to the students is not allowed. Reason: multiple copies of the books are not available in the library due to which the facility of books being issued is not available either to the students or research scholars.

The scholars are demanding a computer, air-conditioner and more seating space in the library from the authorities. But everything is still in the pipeline. The students said they have to depend on the main library to get the books issued.

Another issue which they raised was that the library was used for presenting papers also though a seminar room is available. They demand that as the library rooms are only available for accessing on the premises, no event should be allowed in the library.

The students also complained that more books should be available in the library and the collection should be updated from time to time by the department.

Assistant at the department, Santosh Verma, who manages the library, said: “The students used to demand books but the rules do not allow them to do so. I try to make them access the books as and when required.”
