Chandigarh: As many as 45 Canadian colleges and universities took part in the ‘Study in Canada Mega Education Fair’ organised by Charms Education and Immigration Services. About 450 students turned up and registered at the event. Anna Simonyan, international coordinator, Assiniboine Community College, Manitoba, Canada, said, “The Manitoba province of Canada offers attractive facilities to international students. Health cards are given to students, a rebate of 60 per cent is given on tuition fees, which is already very affordable, and the province has a unique nominee programme that makes getting PR easier.”
Faculty development programme
The Government College of Commerce and Business Administration, Sector 50, here, in association with RUSA, organised a seven-day national-level faculty development programme on “Analytical Techniques of Research” to hone and improve the research quality of faculty members and research scholars of various colleges in the region. A total of 40 participants from different colleges attended the programme. The faculty development programme was sponsored by the Director Higher Education, Chandigarh Administration, under the RUSA project.
Annual convocation
As many as 600 graduate and postgraduate students of four Panjab University (PU) constituent colleges received degrees on the 1st annual convocation of PU constituent colleges at PU Constituent College, Patto Hira Singh, Nihal Singh Wala (Moga). Graduate and postgraduate students of Baba Balraj PU Constituent College Blachaur, Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar; PU Constituent College Guru Harsahai, Ferozepur; PU Constituent College, Patto Hira Singh, Moga; and PU Constituent College, Sikh Wala, Siri Muktsar Sahib, received the degrees on Friday. The four constituent colleges were started in 2011 at the initiative of the Punjab Government to implement the Central Government’s plan to enhance gross enrolment ratio, especially in educationally backward districts of India. In order to sustain these colleges, the Punjab Government has been issuing grant on a regular basis to the PU.
Poetry session
A ‘Virat Kavi Sammelan’ was organised by Ehsaas Adabi Society (Regd) in association with Brilliance World School, Panchkula. The event was held in the memory of late Dr Om Prakash Aggarwal Zar Allami and literary enthusiast late Munish Kalia. — TNS
