An expert speaks on learning disabilities at St Kabir Public School



A conference 'Empower - 2016' was organised at St Kabir Public School in association with Empower Ode, an NGO pioneering in the field of learning disabilities. The panel pointed out the plight of students with learning disabilities in the absence of proper infrastructure, assessment and remediation. "Such students have all the requisites to study in normal schools but due to lack of infrastructure and expertise these students are forced to study in special schools with children facing higher challenges of mental retardation," said Kate Currawala of 'Tare Zammen Pe' fame, who fights for the rights of people with dyslexia, was a resource person on the occasion. Lalitha Ramanujan, a pioneer in the intellectual difficulties and a national awardee, stressed on the role occupational therapy in school system and stressed on regular intervention programs at school level for the students under the category of autistics and dyslexia. 

Save the Butterflies Campaign 

Student members of Nature Club, DAV Public School, Sector 8, launched 'Save the Butterflies Campaign'. They took a pledge to play their part to save butterflies and bee pollinators. They took out a rally on the school premises and made other schoolchildren aware about the importance of butterflies and other pollinators as indicators of huge biodiversity. They sensitised them and reminded them to serve the pollinators and thus save the environment. Principal Jaskiran Harika appreciated the efforts of students and encouraged them to keep contributing their bit towards saving the environment. 

Gurpurb celebrations 

Gurpurb was celebrated with enthusiasm and zeal at the Ankur School on the Panjab University campus. Students and the staff recited the Japji Sahib and sang shabad. The students were told about the teachings of Sri Guru Nanak Dev and the meaning of mool mantra. Later, prasad was distributed among students after the ardas. 

Communal Harmony Week celebrated

Communal Harmony Week was celebrated with vigour and zeal at Bhavan Vidyalaya. Several events were organised by Interact, Human Excellence and Heritage Club in which the students participated in large numbers. A special assembly was conducted to familiarise the students about the need to understand the unity in diversity. A 'Sarv Dharam' prayer was recited by the students. A quiz was conducted by the Heritage Club to test the students' knowledge and understanding of Indian Constitution and its components. 

Workshop on robotics 

Saupin's School organised a workshop on robotics in collaboration with RoboGenius Academy for classes VI to VIII. The workshop was based on RoboGenius Solution based on 'Learning by Doing' methodology that encourages young minds to develop problem solving, decision-making and scientific inquiry skills to comprehend abstract concepts in a hands-on, fun-filled engaging environment. Students learnt a lot in the workshop with active participation. 

Annual day 

Brilliance World School, Sector 12, Panchkula, celebrated its annual day. The cultural presentations by students were all related to India and its diverse traditions. Dance forms from Goa to Mizoram and Delhi to Maharashtra were performed by the students. students from pre-school, too, displayed their skills.

Gurukul student wins title 

Four-year-old Vihaan Chaudhary of The Gurukul School, Panchkula, has won the Mr. Little Icon Junior Title at the Little Icons event. The event was organised by IndieIcons Media.

Symposium held

Government College of Education organised a RUSA-sponsored symposium on 'Professional Opportunities for Teaching Professionals' on the premises of the college. Faculty and all the students of BEd and MEd attended this symposium. During the event, various key issues were reflected upon through the four sessions. The resource persons threw light on employment opportunities in various areas after pre-service teacher training and effective life skills. They stressed that vocational and effective life skills were professionally developed and designed to provide readily usable solutions to the vocational issues. 

Two-day technical event 

To ensure that the students are in sync with the latest technical developments and innovations in the field of Information Technology, Department of Computer Science, DAV College, Chandigarh organised a two-day technical enlightenment event 'Tech Vidya Deep 2016'. As a part of this event, workshops, seminars and discussions on various upcoming technologies and technological researches were organised in coordination with leading IT consultants, software development firms and eminent academicians for the students of various streams of the department. The resource person included technical experts from HP, BEBO technologies, NET Solutions and Panjab University. On the first day the event, workshops on web security and project life cycle were organised. 

Lecture on demonetisation 

A lecture on demonetisation was organised by the Chandigarh Economics Development Association with the assistance of the Department of Economics, Dev Samaj College for Women, Sector 45, on the college premises. Keynote speaker on the occasion was Prof Satish Verma, RBI chair professor, CRRID. Prof Kawaljeet Marwaha, president, Chandigarh Economic Association, and Dr Nisha Bharagava, Principal, MCM DAV College, also graced the occasion. Professor of other colleges also attended the lecture on demonetisation which has taken our country by storm since November 8. Prof Verma said, "The objective of demonetisation move on the part of the government is to check the widespread prevalence of black money in Indian economy. Though currently there is a short-term disruption in the system, in the long-run, it will be effective if the government tries to plug-off the loop-holes in our economics system." —TNS
