Prof Alagh to deliver lecture at PU today

CHANDIGARH: Chair professor, Dr Manmohan Singh Chair, and former Union Minister Prof Yoginder K Alagh will deliver a public lecture on the future of Indian agriculture at the ICSSR Complex PU on August 29 at 3 pm.

Chair professor, Dr Manmohan Singh Chair, and former Union Minister Prof Yoginder K Alagh will deliver a public lecture on the future of Indian agriculture at the ICSSR Complex PU on August 29 at 3 pm. Prof Alagh is the Chancellor of the Central University of Gujarat. He will be in the city till September 2. PU Vice-Chancellor Prof Arun Kumar Grover met Prof Alagh and welcomed him to the city beautiful.

In his first visit to the PU as the Dr Manmohan Singh Chair Professor, Prof Alagh will also interact with students, research scholars and the faculty of the Department of Economics.

Noted economist Prof Alagh was the Minister of State (independent charge) for Planning and Programme Implementation, Science, Technology and Power, and till 2001, a member of the Rajya Sabha. He had also served as the Vice-Chancellor, Jawaharlal Nehru University, and Member, Planning Commission.

Dr Manmohan Singh Chair has been named after the PU alumnus and former Prime Minister. The chair was set up in 2012 at the PU to be offered to an eminent economist.

Noted economist, emeritus professor of economics, University of Cambridge and Life Fellow, Queen’s College, Cambridge, UK, Prof Ajit Singh was the first chair professor, Dr Manmohan Singh Chair, at the PU. — TNS
