The Dental Council of India (DCI) has urged the Union Ministry of Health and Family Affairs to revoke the disaffiliation of five specialised master’s courses in dental surgery at the Dr Harvansh Singh Judge Institute of Dental Sciences and Hospital, Panjab University.

PU Vice-Chancellor Arun Kumar Grover said the DCI had also issued a corrigendum on April 21, stating that they had no objection to the courses if the ministry gave approval to these for the next academic session. The DCI appealed to the Union Minister to provide relief to the varsity.

In a communication to the Union Ministry, the DCI has requested Health Minister JP Nadda to use his good office to cancel the disaffiliation of the courses. In fact, the DCI also recommended the approval for the sixth course that the university applied for nod for the next academic session.

Recently, the ministry had taken a note of the report of the inspection team for the annual renewal of the courses at PU. The team had pointed out that there was no regular Principal for the college in contravention to the norms of the Dental Council of India. The ministry on April 12 had communicated to the varsity that the courses stood disaffiliated from the next session.

There are 14 seats in the five specialised courses at the dental college. The university had applied to the DCI for the addition of three more seats for a new specialised course from the next academic session for which the inspection was conducted by a team of the Dental Council of India (DCI).
