Students in a jubilant mood after being selected for the NDA at Shemrock Senior Secondary School in Sector 69, Mohali.



As many as 4,000 students from 20 schools of the tricity took part in the 19th Inter-School Ryan Minithon at Ryan International School, Chandigarh. Col PDS Sandhu, secretary to the Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh; Capt Dalip Singh Rana, trainer, India hockey and cricket teams; and Deepak Garg, CEO, DM Associates were special guests on the occasion. The guests appreciated and applauded the efforts put in by the host school. The school principal thanked all participating schools, members of the RIS Sports Club from Mumbai, schoolteachers and other staff members for their contribution in making the event a success. 

Saupin’s School

Saupin’s School, Panchkula, bagged the top spot in the India School Rankings-2016. The school was ranked No. 1 amongst the ICSE schools in the city in a survey conducted by EducationToday.Co. Top 150 schools are categorised under 10 parameters i.e. academic reputation, individual attention, infrastructure provision, innovative teaching, safety and hygiene, sports education, value for money, holistic development, leadership management quality and co-curricular activities for the The India School Merit Awards – 2016. 

Adarsh Public Smart School

A healthy food and salad-dressing competition was held at Adarsh Public Smart School, Sector 20-B, Chandigarh. Each student of Classes VI to VIII enjoyed making delicious and healthy food items. The best items were appreciated and awarded by school principal S Thakur.

GMSSS-26

Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao Abhiyan Week was observed at Government Model Senior Secondary School (GMSSS), Sector 26 (Timber Market), Chandigarh. A quiz was held, which was inaugurated by principal Veena Kapur. Kavita and Kiran Bala Rana were judges for the event. Sudha Sharma hosted the quiz. Four teams participated in the competition. Members of the winning team- Preeti, Maya and Jaspreet- were awarded prizes.

St Soldier’s School, Panchkula

The second Mohinder Memorial Basketball Tournament concluded at St Soldier’s School in Panchkula recently. The chief guest for the event was Suresh Kumar Ranout, deputy manager, ONGC. The guest of honour was Himasnhu Sharma, head of the physics faculty at Lakshay Institute, Panchkula. The school won the tournament for the second time in a row. Players were given medals, certificates and prizes. Khushi and Aanchal starred in the final match. Vanshika Bansal was declared the best player of the tournament. 

Mount Litera Zee School, Panchkula 

To promote constitutional values among students, Constitution Day was observed at Mount Litera Zee School, Panchkula. A special assembly was organised to mark the day. Various aspects of the Indian Constitution were discussed with students during the assembly. School chairman Narinder Singla and director Amita Singla graced the occasion.

St Soldier International Convent School, Mohali

St Soldier International Convent School, Mohali, held its first phase of the annual function, “Vibes 2016”. The programme commenced with the introduction of a musical extravaganza, “Into the Woods”, by Taranpreet Kaur of Class V. Students of Classes VI and VII took the audience to Sherwood Forest with the staging the classic tale of Robin Hood. Principal Vinender Tiwana appreciated efforts of the students.

The British School

The British School, Panchkula, celebrated its 11th annual function, “Magical Moments-2016”. The programme commenced with the lighting of a ceremonial lamp by chief guest Sudhir Chowdhary, Additional Director General of Police (Prisons), Panchkula. Students presented yoga asanas, dance items and a musical show. Students of the primary wing presented a medley of dances to pay homage to the soldiers killed while performing their duty. A skit, “Magical Moments@TBS”, received a standing ovation.

The Sky World School

The Sky World School, Panchkula, organised the “Rang De-2016”, an Inter-school painting and rangoli competition in collaboration with the Haryana Kala Parishad and Sanskar Bharti. The event was inaugurated by Gian Chand Gupta, MLA, Panchkula. The contest was based on the theme, “Indian Values and Heritage”. Nearly 400 students various schools participated in the competition. The highlight of the event was live painting workshops by renowned artists of the region. An interactive session with the artists was also organised. 

Karan Public School, Jalouli, Panchkula

The fifth annual sports day was organised at Karan Public School, Jalouli, Panchkula, for junior students. As many as 200 students from the pre-primary wing participated in the event. The meet started with a march past and included various races. Yoga and PT show stole the show. Different yoga asanas were demonstrated during the programme. The children also presented various dance items Wing Commander J C Dhaiya was the chief guest and declared the meet open. The winners were given medals and certificates. A health camp was also organised in association with Health Plus and Max Hospital 

Shemrock Senior Secondary School

It was a proud moment for Shemrock Senior Secondary School, Sector 69, and Maharaja Ranjit Singh Institute when their 32 students were selected for the National Defence Academy  (NDA). The students  will join the NDA for further training. SK Sharma, Director, Education, while honouring the students,  said 32 candidates had been selected for the NDA. He said the Indian Army enjoyed the reputation of being one of the finest forces in the world. A career in the armed forces, therefore, held the promise of bringing honour, glory, social reputation and a privileged lifestyle.
