Thapar University students have designed an electric car with an aim to make travel more pocket-friendly.

The car can be charged from solar energy as well as from electricity and can run for 75 km after it is fully charged. It has an average of 30 paise/km. It decreases further if the car is charged through solar energy.

The twelve-member team, “Orjaa”, led by Bhanu Marwaha includes Ashish, Karan, Harshit, Harsimran, Arpit, Tejkirat, Amar Raj, Nimish, Ayush, Nikhil and Prasu. They were guided by Dr Gagandeep Kaur.

Bhanu said the team took about eight months to finish this project and spent about Rs 1 lakh on the same.

“Whenever it is parked in the sun, the battery will be charged. It also has regenerative braking where energy from braking will be stored back to the battery,” said Bhanu.
