A major tragedy was averted after a school bus of Hansraj Public School, Sector 6, caught fire on the school premises, here today. No one was hurt in the incident, but chaos and panic spread among students as the school was over and children were boarding buses. Short circuit in the wirings of the newly installed CCTV camera in the bus named ‘Kitty- Cat’ is said to have triggered the fire.

While the school authorities said no kids were inside the bus when the fire started, a student of Class VI, who was an eyewitness, said four children were in the bus who were rescued by a female helper as the driver jumped out of the bus to safety.

Driver Vinod Kumar tried starting the ignition of the bus which triggered the fire. As soon as the fire started, the children started running helter-skelter and panic spread, which was soon contained and all students gathered in the school ground.
