Engineering graduates shine in CAT

CHANDIGARH:Most of the aspirants who have scored 99 percentile and above in the tricity in the Common Admission Test (CAT) are engineering graduates.

Most of the aspirants who have scored 99 percentile and above in the tricity in the Common Admission Test (CAT) are engineering graduates. The result was declared today.

Vipul Kakkar (22) has scored 99.99 percentile. He is presently working with EXL Analytics in Gurgaon. He did his mechanical engineering from Punjab Engineering College (PEC), Chandigarh. Vipul said taking mock tests regularly immensely helped him prepare for CAT. "I usually gave one mock test per day plus did analysis of that mock. In the last week before CAT, I gave two mock tests per day," he said.

Ayush Chauhan (24), who hails from Shimla and did his engineering from the Thapar Institute of Engineering and Technology in Patiala, has scored 99.95 percentile. Presently, he has been teaching at a coaching institute in Sector 8, Chandigarh.

Himanshu Chopra, who is working as probationary officer (PO) with the State Bank of India, scored 99.86 percentile. He did his engineering from Chandigarh College of Engineering and Technology (CCET), Sector 26.

Other high scorers

Priyam Gupta of PEC, Chandigarh, has scored 99.61. He is a final-year computer science student. His father Jitendar Kumar Gupta is GM at Verka and mother Neelam Gupta is a lecturer at SD College, Jalandhar. He has got a call from FMS, Delhi and IIM Ahmedabad. "I started preparing from July 2017. I used to study for 3-4 hours daily," he said.

Rishab Goyal of PEC has scored 99.60 percentile. He is a final-year student of Electrical Engineering. His father Chander Mohan Goyal is a businessman and mother Anjali Goyal is a homemaker. He has been preparing for the test since January 2017. Besides studies, Goyal also plays table tennis. He had won gold medal in 2009 while playing from Haryana and is a part of PEC team which has won so far two silvers in inter-university competitions (2014 and 2015).

Raghav Rai Singla, who is doing civil engineering from PEC, has scored 99.54. A resident of Panchkula, he did his schooling from St John's High School, Sector 26, Chandigarh. His father Ashok Singla is a businessman and mother Dimple is a homemaker. "I have been regularly studying for one hour daily from May 2017 onwards. Then from November 2017, I started studying for over 10 hours," he said.

Sophia Dhawan of CCET, Sector 26, scored 99.52 percentile. She is final-year student of computer science. Her father Brijesh Dhawan is a manager with Punjab Grameen Bank and mother Kusum Dhawan is a homemaker. She did her Class XII from Bhavan Vidyalaya, Chandigarh. "Initially, I was studying for 2-3 hours daily but later started investing 4-5 hours," she said.

Anmol Bansal is doing BSc from SD College, Sector 32, and has scored 99.21 percentile. She has got a call from IIM Ahmedabad. Her father Pawan Kumar Bansal is a businessman and mother Saroj is a homemaker.  

Panjab University's UICET student Priyam Dixit has scored 99.16. He is a final-year student of engineering. He is from Jagadhri in Haryana. His father is a businessman and mother is homemaker.

Shashank Saroha is Human Capital City Head in 'Make a Difference', an NGO. He has scored 99.10 percentile. A resident of Panchkula, he is a final-year student of Electronics and Communication at UIET. His NGO is working for children at shelter homes. His father DR Saroha was a DRDO scientist and mother Sunita is vice-principal of DAV, Sector 15. He did his Class X from St John's High School and Class XII from a government school at Sector 33.
