Ensure ambulances don’t get stuck during VVIP visits

ARJUN BEDI: I have been told that all people are equal in the eyes of law.

I have been told that all people are equal in the eyes of law. Then why do thousands of people get inconvenienced whenever VVIPs visit our city? Think about serious patients in ambulances who got stuck in traffic jams during such visits. They need immediate medical assistance. Traffic police personnel also waste their time and energy while controlling the situation on roads. The VVIPs should avoid travel by road and be taken from the airport in a helicopter to their destinations. The move will be helpful in tackling chaos on roads. —Arjun Bedi, Chandigarh

Stop wastage of resources

Farmers of Punjab and Haryana are staging protests against the Centre by stopping the supply of vegetables, milk and other farm products. Protests in a democracy are always welcome but the situation turned ugly when farmers started spilling milk and throwing fruits and vegetables on roads. The anger cannot be justified by wastage of resources in any form. There is no denying of the fact that the plight of farmers in the country has become deplorable with inflation making things worse. The protest will go on till June 10. It is the duty of the government to check the wastage of milk and other eatables. There are still many people in the country who live in penury and don't get a single meal a day. The prices of farm products crashed in the aftermath of demonetisation which led to this protest. Challenges lying ahead for agricultural sector must be solved on a priority basis as a majority of the Indian population is still dependent on farming. The deepening crisis of farmers' exploitation should be contained.  —Jaspreet Singh, Patiala
