Chandigarh, August   20

While JP Associate has shut the garbage plant at Dadu Majra on account of maintenance work, the  waste being  dumped at the ground has made the  lives of area residents miserable.

Col KJS Sandhu, manager of the plant, said the operation had  been   suspended temporarily.

He said the plant would function normally once the machine was repaired (within a day or two).

The plant had already stopped accepting the wet garbage thrown at the dumping ground.

The residents said they were suffering.

Rakesh Kumar, a resident, said civic officials had promised to make arrangements for the proper disposal of the garbage, but the stink was unbearable.

He said the rain had also added to the problem. The MC generates approximately 350 to 400 tonnes of garbage daily.

Meanwhile,  the firm has started the installation of another compost plant.
