Fire breaks out at sweet shop

Kohli Sweets, a famous eatery joint of the city located in Tripri, was reduced to ashes after a major fire broke around 4.30 in the morning. Though there was no casualty, the three-storey building has been completely gutted following a short circuit in one of the refrigerators. It took fire fighting teams three hours to douse the fire completely.

As per initial reports, the estimated loss of property is over Rs one crore. The security guard of the eatery was the first to notice the fire. He immediately informed the owners — Taranjeet Singh and Parwinder Singh — when he saw smoke rising from the building. They rushed to the spot, but by the time they reached, the entire building had caught fire.

The nearby buildings were also evacuated and the traffic was diverted in order to avoid any untoward incident. The owners alleged delay on part of the fire teams claiming that had they reached the spot in time, they could save the loss. Their parents were teary eyed when they saw that the eatery was completely gutted.

However, Jatinder Singh, assistant divisional fire officer, said the teams reached the spot within 10 minutes of receiving the call. 

“We received a call at 5.15 am and within 10 minutes, six fire tenders were rushed to the spot. The incident occurred around 4.30 am, but the 45-minute delay in informing the fire brigade caused major loss. By the time we reached the spot, the entire building was engulfed with massive fire,” he informed.
