The Zirakpur police arrested three women among five allegedly for defrauding several persons on the pretext of sending them abroad by arranging job-permit visa.
The accused have been identified as Keshav of Chandigarh, Harry Singh of Muktsar, Harpreet Kaur of Chandigarh, Pooja and Sunita of Zirakpur and Mubarikpur village, respectively.
Zirakpur SHO Pawan Kumar said they received a tip-off that Keshav and four others had been operating an unregistered immigration firm ‘Target Consultancy’ and they had been duping people.
During the investigations, it was confirmed that this company was not registered under the relevant section of the Emigration Act (no person to function as recruiting agent without a valid certificate). It has come to the fore that the firm had neither sent the aspirants abroad nor returned the money, the SHO added.
A case under relevant sections of the IPC has been registered at the Zirakpur police station.
Lottery racket busted, four held
Lalru: The police have arrested four persons allegedly for running the trade of single-digit lottery at Lalru Mandi. Besides, the police have also recovered more than Rs 1,500 from his possession.
The police said four persons – Gaurav of Dehradun, Amit, Raj Bahadur and Naveen Gupta, all residents of Ambala City — were spinning the trade in Lalru Mandi and the racket was being run on the lines of government lotteries. Acting on a tip-off, the police raided places at Lalru Mandi and nabbed the four accused. A case has been registered against all the four accused under various sections of the IPC. —OC
