Unidentified miscreants set five autos, a motorcycle and two rehris on fire at Teen Colony, Sector 52. The incident led to a protest by residents of Sector 52, who blocked the internal sector road over the deteriorating law and order situation in the area.

Sources said while three auto-rickshaws and a motorcycle were set on fire on Tuesday night, two other auto-rickshaws were set on fire this morning.

The police said they received information around 12.50 am from Lalji, who reported that someone had set his motorcycle, that was parked near his house, on fire. Another complainant, Sahil, reported that his auto was also set on fire. Residents claimed that there were over 10 miscreants, who also threatened a few people before fleeing from the spot.

Police teams and fire tenders were rushed to the spot. A fire official said three auto-rickshaws and a motorcycle were set on fire following which two fire tenders were rushed to the spot.

Later in the morning, two more auto-rickshaws were set on fire following which another fire tender was rushed to the spot.

Agitated over the incident, local residents gathered at the spot. They staged a protest and blocked the internal road in Sector 52. Area councillor Chandrawati Shukla also staged a protest over the “police failure” to maintain law and order in the area. The protest continued for over two hours. Police teams were rushed to the spot to pacify the protesters. DSP (South) Deepak Yadav also reached the spot and assured the protesters that strict action would be taken against the accused.

A case has been registered against unknown persons at the Sector 36 police station.
