Rahul Bhatia, a visually impaired Class X student of Tender Heart School, Sector 33, here, scored 75.2 per cent marks in the ICSE Class X results.

Showing the way to others, Rahul defied his disability. He was diagnosed with 100 per cent disability in one eye and 60 per cent in another early in childhood.

Rahul’s success brought cheers on the faces of his family members. They celebrated it with their relatives and friends by distributing sweets.

Rahul’s mother, Reena Bhatia, a lecturer, said doctors told them that their son would not be able to study and suggested alternate career such as music.

“We decided to go ahead and admitted him to Tender Heart School. He used to write with his face close (almost 3 inches) to the copy. Noting down from blackboard was impossible,” said Reena.

“Schoolteachers did not let him down. They paid extra attention to him during the classes. Principal Vikrant Suri kept a close eye on his curriculum activities,” said his father, Naveen Bhatia, an employee with a company.

Rahul gives the credit for his success to his teachers, parents and sister who stood by him during all odds.
