The old car bazaar at Madhya Marg no longer attracts buyers. Since January 2017, when the MC had declared it illegal, the people prefer keeping off the market.
Gulshan Kumar, president of the Car Dealers’ Association, said the car bazaar was now fighting for its existence as it could not be run from Sector 7. He said the MC and the Administration had failed to provide them an alternative place, adding that seven months had passed and they were left with a fewer options.
Kumar said if the Administration did not take the decision soon, traders would be rendered jobless. He said what would happen to those who made a living by selling cars. People from the neighboring states would come to the car bazaar which ran for more than 30 years. “We would put up as many as 2,000 cars for sale every Sunday,” a trader said. The sites in Hallo Majra have no facilities for the dealers. The enforcement staff of the Municipal Corporation towed away 10 cars from the car bazaar. Though the civic body has put up boards saying the market is illegal, the traders continue to sell cars there.
Not many cars were sold today. Showroom owners had moved the court opposing the car bazaar.
