Chandigarh, December 21
The auto driver arrested on a charge of raping a 21-year-old call centre employee has turned out to be a hard nut to crack as the investigating team is still struggling to make him reveal the name of the second accused. The auto-rickshaw used in the crime is yet to be recovered, making it difficult for the police to make further headway in the case.
A police official said the accused was yet to reveal the name of his accomplice. The auto driver is on police remand. The police had arrested him and sent him to jail. The police then moved an application for the test identification parade of the accused, which was allowed by the court. The victim identified the accused during the test identification parade. Following this, the accused was remanded in two-day police custody that will end tomorrow.
The victim was gangraped while returning home from work by the auto driver and his accomplice at knifepoint in a forest area in Sector 29 on December 12. She had hired the auto from the road separating Sector 34 and 21 on Dakshin Marg to go to Hallo Majra around 8 pm.
