Gang rape victim identifies accused

CHANDIGARH: The 21-year-old call centre employee, who was allegedly gangraped by an auto driver and his accomplice, today identified the arrested auto driver during the test identification parade.

The 21-year-old call centre employee, who was allegedly gangraped by an auto driver and his accomplice, today identified the arrested auto driver during the test identification parade.

The police have now moved an application seeking remand of the accused to interrogate him regarding his accomplice.

Police officials said the test identification parade of the accused, Wasim Malik (28), a resident of Tin Colony, Sector 52, was conducted during which the victim identified him.

The victim was gangraped while returning home from work by the auto driver and his accomplice at knifepoint in a forest area in Sector 29 on December 12. She had hired the auto from the road separating Sector 34 and 21 on Dakshin Marg to go to Hallo Majra around 8 pm.

A police official said since the accused was in jail, they would seek his police remand and interrogate him regarding his accomplice. “The accused has not revealed the name of his accomplice yet,” said the police official, adding that they were yet to recover the auto used in the crime.
