Chandigarh, June 5
Basking in the glory of getting the much-awaited nod for 100 MBBS seats from the Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare today, the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32, has another reason to celebrate. The college has been ranked the 10th best among the medical institutions in the country.
Giving details, Dr Atul Sachdev, Director-Principal of the college, told Chandigarh Tribune that the ranking was special as it had given the GMCH its long-due recognition as a world-class medical institution.
“The ranking has come from a renowned magazine, ‘Career 360 Degree’. Coming along with the news of approval of 100 MBBS seats, this is indeed special,” Dr Sachdev said.

Meanwhile, Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare JP Nadda today announced that on the recommendations of the Medical Council of India (MCI), the Health Ministry had approved the renewal of 100 seats for the GMCH.
Interacting with mediapersons at the international airport, Mohali, he said this would give a big relief to medical aspirants.
MP Kirron Kher thanked Nadda for approving the renewal. The MCI inspects the college every year to determine the number of seats it should have. The number of seats, which was 50 until the 2012-13 session, was increased to 100 for the subsequent two sessions. This year, the MCI had raised an objection to an increase in the number of seats from 50 to 100, saying that the college had many deficiencies.
