Services at the GMCH, Sector 32, are set to be hit as 1,200 contractual workers of the hospital are going on a strike from tomorrow against the non-payment of Diwali bonus. The workers include the security and sanitation staff and the general staff working in the hospital.

In a letter submitted to the Director-Principal of the GMCH, the general secretary of the Contract Workers’ Union, Manish Kumar, has requested that the contractor be directed to pay Diwali bonus to the employees as per the notification of the Centre.

Dinesh, president of the union, said, “We are entitled to get Rs 7,000 as Diwali bonus, but the contractor has agreed to pay only Rs 3,500. However, he is yet to pay even that amount.” He said the union had given several representations to the authorities, but to no avail. “If a strike is the only way out to get our dues, we will go ahead with it,” he said.

Dinesh said the contractual employees would start their protest at 8 am tomorrow.
