In a bid to ensure safe journey of students to and from schools, the local administration on Friday came down heavily on errant school buses plying on the city roads ferrying students beyond their capacity thereby violating the permit norms.
Two school buses were found violating the basic road safety norms during a surprise checking on the Tehsil road, Dera Bassi, this afternoon.
As per the information, buses of Lala Deep Chand Public School and Lord Mahavir Jain Public School, Dera Bassi, were found overloaded with students beyond permitted numbers during the checking.
In view of complaints of rash and negligent driving by many buses operated by the educational institutions, Dera Bassi SDM Shiv Kumar along with other officials today conducted a surprise check on the school buses plying in the city. During the check, it was found that school buses engaged by the school authorities were violating rules and regulations framed for the safety of going children. It was quite surprising that the buses with 45 seats were found carrying students beyond the permitted numbers. Shiv Kumar said that they would conduct meeting with school officials soon keeping in mind the safety of the school children, adding that the bus operators have been warned that they could face cancellation of the vehicles registration if the same offences were repeated.
