Chandigarh, December 11

The Ashok Goyal group today declared that they would contest the Syndicate elections against Prof Navdeep Goyal.

Prof Navdeep is the chairperson of the Department of Physics and holds majority in the Senate. The elections to Syndicate and Deans will take place on December 18 and December 19.

“I, Prof Rajesh Gill and Prof Keshav Malhotra will contest the elections this time. We are looking for more candidates. We will contest the poll for the faculty of medical sciences, languages and combined faculties,” said Ashok Goyal.

“We are contesting to ensure that the PU is not affected by vested interests,” he said.

“I challenge Ashok Goyal to fight against me in the combined faculties. We are ready. Our group is intact. It is their perception that I am running the show. We hold discussion and everyone gets an opportunity to express his/her views.” Prof Navdeep Goyal

Box: “Last year, we did not contest and had left the field open for others. It could be seen what has happened in the past one year and how the Syndicate has been working under one person; Prof Navdeep Goyal.” Ashok Goyal

“Last time, they did not have guts to fight the elections. I am happy they are contesting this time and it is their right too. But the result is clear. They do not even have candidates for all the 15 seats.” Prof Navdeep Goyal
