The Department of the Excise and Taxation has issued around 100 more notices to shop owners, who were covered under the Composition Scheme and not following the GST norms.

Sources said the violations were found during checking carried out by different teams of the department over the last 15 days. Four teams randomly visited shops in different sectors.

As per the rules, the dealers covered under the Composition Scheme are not allowed to charge GST. It is also mandatory for them to mention in their bills that they were not charging GST. They are also required to display in their shops that they are composition dealers.

Sources said during the checking, at least 100 dealers were found not following the norms.

While some dealers did not mention in their bills that they were not charging GST, others were not issuing bills to customers.

A senior officer of the department said show-cause notices had been issued to all such dealers and penalty would be imposed on them as per the law.

Sources said the department had earlier issued notices to 50 dealers for not issuing bills to their customers. The department had collected approximately Rs 2 lakh in the form of penalty from the offenders then.

Sources said around 1,700 shop owners have been registered under the Composition Scheme in the city.
