Hailstorm, rain lash tricity

CHANDIGARH: The city witnessed hailstorm coupled with strong rain this evening. There were reports of chipping of glass windows due to hailstorm.

Chandigarh, February 24

The city witnessed hailstorm coupled with strong rain this evening. There were reports of chipping of glass windows due to hailstorm.

Rainwater entered houses at some places due to strong wind. Early in the morning, rain brought respite from the increasing temperature.

The city witnessed nearly 10mm of rainfall. The Met Department said they had issued an alert of hailstorm today.

While the maximum temperature was 26.7 degree Celsius, minimum temperature was recorded at 17.2 degree Celsius.

Motorists caught unawares in Mohali

Mohali: Sporadic rain and hailstorm lashed several parts of the town. Several parts of the town received hailstorm around 10.15 am, but the evening saw another spell of hailstorm. Those riding two-wheelers and bicycles were seen running around for shelter. Even those riding four-wheeler had to park their cars along the roads during the hailstorm. “I was driving car when all of a sudden hailstorm accompanied with rain lashed the town. I had to stop my car along the road,” said Sangeeta, a resident.

Traffic snarls in Panchkula

Panchkula: Rainfall in the morning and evening hours here threw normal life out of gear. Rainfall lashed the city for 2 hours in the morning. However, the evening witnessed hailstorm. Low-lying areas witnessed waterlogging and traffic also moved at a snail’s pace. At the entry and exit points of Panchkula, water got accumulated which slowed down the traffic leading to traffic jams. Long queues of vehicles could be seen from the Housing Board Chowk till the Sector 7/8 light point. Entry and exit points of Sector 20 also witnessed traffic jam.
