A local court on Tuesday awarded five years of imprisonment to a hair salon owner in a two-year-old case of culpable homicide.

The convict, Phool Bahar who reportedly ran hair salons at Central Mall and Sector 29, has also been directed to pay a fine of Rs 10,000.

Phool Bahar was booked after the death of his friend Sandeep (24). While charges were framed under Section 304 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC)and Section 27A of the NDPS Act, he was convicted under part 2 of Section 304 of the IPC.

In a complaint filed on August 10, 2016, by Sandeep’s parents, it was stated that on August 3, a boy, named Ajju, picked up their son saying that he would return in 10 minutes. However, he did not return home and was not answering his phone as well.

Ajju said Sandeep had gone to Sector 47. However, the next day at around 8.30pm, the police found Sandeep’s body at a shop in Sector 29, owned by the accused, Phool Bahar. It was argued that on August 3, Sandeep, after meeting Ajju, had gone to meet his friend Phool Bahar at his salon in Centra Mall.

As per the statement recorded by the security guard of the mall, the deceased was heard telling Bahar that he wanted to go home and the convict made him sit in an auto and took him from there.

While initially it was alleged that it might be a case of drug overdose, the parents in their complaint had claimed that it was a case of murder.
