Panchkula, August 2

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar today took the Panchkula police by surprise when he drove into the Sector 5 police station without any security late this evening. Khattar was invited to a religious function in Sector 5, behind the police station. His OSD Jawahar Yadav drove him into the police station in a car without a beacon.

Khattar who entered the police station at 9.08 pm found only three policemen present there and suspecting that two of the three drunk, he immediately called the Chief Medical Officer, VK Bansal, and asked him to get their medical examination conducted. There was no electricity at the police station.

Later, the Munshi of the police station, Head Constable Mahinder and Constable Rahul were sent to the Sector 6 General Hospital, where Dr Sunil Gambhir conducted the medical examination and said that their blood samples were taken.

When the Chief Minister asked the Munshi as to why there were only three policemen present at the police station, he replied that the entire force had gone to check the law and order situation at a religious function in Sector 5. While the Head Constable was calling up his Station House Officer to inform that the Chief Minister was here, Khattar took his phone asking him not to tell anybody.

As the phone was hung up abruptly, sensing that something was wrong, SHO Inspector Lalit Kumar reached the police station and was taken aback to see the Chief Minister checking all the rooms.

It was then that the Deputy Commissioner of Police Anil Dhawan and Deputy Commissioner Vivek Atray also reached the police station.

The Chief Minister asked the Deputy Commissioner of Police as to why there was no light at the police station and asked him to ensure the power was restored.

He said that a police woman should have been there at the police station.

“I just came to check the condition of the police station, as I wanted to know whether the police stations in my state needed any improvement,” said the Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.

At 9.41 pm, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar left the police station.
