Water is being wasted carelessly in Panchkula. People wash their cars with pipes and wash every inch of their corridors.  To avoid challans, many wash their cars and verandahs in dark. They do not understand that there are many people who are even deprived of water. There is no check on wastage of water. People misuse it without thinking twice. There is a need to take some strict actions to curb the wastage of water.

Tributes paid to Shujaat

As a hallmark of protest against the killing of senior journalist ‘Shujaat Bukhari’ in Srinagar, Kashmiri editors left the editorials of newspapers vacant. Bukhari was an innocent journalist who was doing his work with dedication and ethics. “Our freedom to express won’t be subdued by this murder,” said a protester. The heroism and dauntless attitude shown by the editors has won my heart.

Take measures to bring transparency in system

The government buildings as per different reports are declared unsafe. The school buildings in several villages are also termed dangerous as these are made up of sub-standard material and cannot bear the natural calamities. There are several things which can be done from public money. First, the expenditure on the construction of these buildings should be disclosed online with the list of material that is being used to ensure transparency. Moreover, regular updates should be made available on the internet. Secondly, as everyone knows haste is waste, so authorities should take time and devise a plan first and then they should start the construction work. The hasty implementation of plans can lead to sub-standard quality. Third, the authorities should work by taking one construction project at a time. These are some points, if implemented, can help maintain the government buildings.

MC responsible for dog menace

This refers to the news report, ‘Dog-bite victim’s autopsy postponed for a day, again’ (Chandigarh Tribune, June 20). Surely, the Municipal Corporation is to be blamed for the stray dog and stray cattle menace in the parks of the city. Had the MC officials acted to keep the parks free of stray dogs, the one-and-a-half-year-old toddler, Aayush, would not have been mauled to death. Surely, the Municipal Commissioner should be called to the Sector 19 police station, where the parents of Aayush have lodged an FIR, and asked to explain the negligence on the part of the MC in controlling the menace of stray dogs. The MC should pay a suitable compensation to the parents in this regard.
