Head constable commits suicide

CHANDIGARH:A 55-year-old head constable of the Chandigarh Police today committed suicide by jumping in front of a train at the railway track near Mani Majra.

A 55-year-old head constable of the Chandigarh Police today committed suicide by jumping in front of a train at the railway track near Mani Majra. The victim was reportedly depressed.

According to the police, the victim has been identified as Dharamvir Singh, who was residing at the Police Lines in Sector 26. He was posted with the CID wing of the Chandigarh Police at the Police Headquarters, Sector 9.

The victim has left a suicide note blaming himself for the extreme step. The Government Railway Police have ruled out foul play in the incident. Sources said the victim had earlier attempted suicide twice. 

The victim was identified by his identity card, which was recovered from his clothes. He is survived by his wife, two sons and a daughter. 

The sources said the victim was transferred to the CID from the PCR wing and was taking treatment for depression at the PGI. The Government Railway Police have initiated inquest proceedings. The body was handed over to the family after a postmortem examination.
