CHANDIGARH:Hockey Chandigarh continued their winning run as they beat Hockey Jharkhand 6-0 in their second match of Hockey India Sub-Junior (Men) National Championship (A Division), in Saifai, Uttar Pradesh.

Hockey Chandigarh continued their winning run as they beat Hockey Jharkhand 6-0 in their second match of Hockey India Sub-Junior (Men) National Championship (A Division), in Saifai, Uttar Pradesh.

The Chandigarh boys scored four goals in the first half. Angadbir Singh opened the account in the 12th minute while Harpreet Singh doubled the lead in the 25th minute. Rahul scored the third goal in the 29th minute and skipper Amandeep added the fourth to the tally in the 35th minute.

After the lemon break, the Chandigarh boys scored two more goals.  Amandeep scored his second goal in the 63rd minute to push the score to 5-0 and Harpanthpreet Singh also got on to the score-sheet with a goal in the 68th minute. In another Pool B encounter, Hockey Unit of Tamil Nadu started their campaign by playing out a thrilling 4-4 draw against Hockey Andhra Pradesh. B Sathish scored a goal in the 15th minute to give a 1-0 lead to the Tamil Nadu boys.

But Andhra Pradesh were quick to respond in the second half and scored four goals through Ragaha Vendra Rao (45th minute, 56th minute), Santha Kumar Puchalapalli (46th minute) and Hitesh Rao Lekkala (60th minute) to draw the match 4-4.

Tamil Nadu’s three goals in the second half were scored by M Karnasiva (54th minute, 58th minute) and B Sathish (51st minute).

Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy beat Manipur Hockey 8-1 in a dominant display. The victors played an attacking brand of hockey throughout the game as they took a 4-1 lead going into the half-time break. In the second half, Manipur Hockey could not produce a comeback as Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy added four more goals to their tally to snatch an 8-1 win. For Madhya Pradesh, Himanshu Sanik (35th minute, 39th minute), Shwetank James (65th minute, 69th minute), Haider Ali (3rd minute), captain Shreyas Dhupe (6th minute), Adarsh Hardua (21st minute) and Ali Ahmed (58th minute) scored the goals. Manipur Hockey’s only goal was scored by Dingku Sharma Gurumayum in the 33rd minute.

Namdhari XI win

Namdhari XI started their Pool C campaign with a triumphant display as they beat Chhattisgarh Hockey 8-0. Namdhari XI set the momentum going as they scored five goals before the half-time whistle. In the second half, the victors continued to dominate the game as they registered an 8-0 win. Skipper Hanspal Singh (13th minute, 57th minute), Anil (16th minute, 51st minute), Hardeep Singh (34th minute, 37th minute), Akashdeep Singh (7th minute) and Maninder Singh (31st minute) scored goals.

City eves face defeat

Hockey Gangpur-Odisha beat Hockey Chandigarh 4-2 in the quarterfinals of the eighth Hockey India Sub Junior (Women) National Championship in Hisar. The game started off with both the teams looking to attack each other. Manisha Oram scored the opening goal in the 23rd minute to give the the lead to Odisha. However, Akshita levelled the score by converting a penalty corner in the 34th minute. In the last minute of the first half, Odisha’s Aten Topno scored a beautiful field goal to make it 2-1.

The Chandigarh eves made a comeback in the 41st minute when Monu sounded the wooden plank to restore parity. But, Odisha’s Manisha Oram completed her hat-trick by scoring two more goals in the 52nd minute and 70th minutes to win the match.

Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy defeated Hockey Jharkhand by a solitary goal to secure their position in the semifinals. The game remained goalless in the first 34 minutes as both the teams battled hard to get a breakthrough. It was only in the final minute of the first half that skipper Sadhna Sengar managed to convert a penalty corner to give her side a 1-0 lead. Sports Authority of India (SAI) triumphed over Hockey Him 4-3 in penalty shootout. SAI took a 2-0 lead after Swarnika Rawat netted the first goal in the 10th minute followed by another goal in the 15th minute by Hina Bano.

Bano netted another goal in the 38th minute to extend the lead to 3-0. However, Srishti Bhoigi of Hockey Him scored a goal in the 49th minute to make it 1-3 at the end of the first 50 minutes of the game. 

The road leading to the semifinals looked clear for Sports Authority of India but Tannu of Hockey Him came to her team’s rescue when she scored two consecutive goals in the 52nd and 53rd minutes to make it 3-3 at the end of the second half.

In the penalty shootout, SAI prevailed over Hockey Him as they won the shootout 4-3. Jyothi Edula, Amanpreet Kaur, Swarnika Rawat and skipper Anjana Dung Dung converted from the spot for SAI. Tannu, Arti Kashyap and the skipper Antim Malik were the goal scorers for Hockey Him.

Haryana girls blank Punjab 5-0

Hockey Haryana defeated Hockey Punjab 5-0. Haryana looked in complete control throughout the game as Deepika scored their first goal in the 16th minute. Bharti Saroha’s goal in the 22nd minute followed by Komal Rohila’s goal in the 28th minute extended Hockey Haryana’s lead to 3-0 at the end of the first half. 

In the second half, Bharti Saroha scored her second goal of the match in the 38th minute to make it 4-0. Deepika also got a brace in the match as she scored the final goal of the match in the 43rd minute to give her team a much-deserved 5-0 victory.
