Panchkula, June 7

Panchkula will soon get its all-women police station that will not only have a women control room but a women PCR as well. The police station will also provide safety training tips to women to handle eve-teasers and molesters.

Any woman in distress can approach the women police officials. The women police station will also have the one-stop crisis centre on the lines of western countries,” said Commissioner of Police (CP) OP Singh.

The building of the women police station is coming up in the Mansa Devi Complex Sector 6 and will be inaugurated in August.

“There will be around 40 woman police personnel at the police station. It is the government’s flagship programme, offering end-to-end preventive, detective and rehabilitate response to crime against women under one roof,” added OP Singh.

The police station will look into cases of crime against women that is reported in the district, counselling of the victims of molestation or physical abuse and their rehabilitation.

Manned full by women police personnel, it will be on the lines of one-stop crisis centre for women in the western countries where a victim of assault can not just lodge a complaint but will also be treated.

Keeping in mind the hesitation faced by women victims to go to the police stations or interact in the presence of male police officials, the decision was taken.

After Panchkula, every district will  soon have a women police station.

Sources said that though the name of these police stations across Haryana had not been decided, yet one of the names that has been suggested to the government is MANSA (Mahila viruddh Apradh Nishedh avam Sasaktikaran Abhiyan).

All cases of dowry, molestation, sexual abuse, eve-teasing will be reported here.
