Chandigarh, June 26

The 18-month-old Ayush, who was mauled to death by stray dogs on June 17, was bitten 20 times, stated the investigating officer while reading the post-mortem report.

After an impasse of nine days, the post-mortem of dog-bite victim Ayush was performed by a three-member board of doctors at the Government Multi-Speciality Hospital in Sector 16 here on Tuesday. The body was handed over to the family. Later, the victim was buried at a crematorium in Sector 25.

The police had registered an FIR against unidentified persons on Monday, following which the family had agreed to conduct the autopsy.

The kin of Ayush accused the police of leading to delay in the post-mortem. The family members said the day Ayush was killed they had demanded the registration of a case, but the police were reluctant. It was after they knocked the door of the Punjab and Haryana High Court, the police took action.

“Had they registered the case on the first day, my son’s body would not have been kept in the mortuary for so long,” said Mamta, mother of Ayush.
