Idea to set up geese memorial illogical
The very idea of setting up a geese memorial at Sukhna lake is ridiculous, far-fetched and illogical. One just wonders what is the rationale behind it and what useful purpose it would serve to society. Memorials are set up to commemorate and emulate ideals of great people from different walks of life and certainly not as per stray idea floated by an individual as per his fascination.

Reintroduce geese
The UT should reintroduce geese rather than setting up a memorial to them at the lake as the geese are one of the most important and beautiful part of the lake and a centre of attraction for tourists. Reintroducing these will be a tribute in real sense to the culled geese. However, periodic monitoring of geese is necessary, especially when they come in contact with migratory birds, to prevent such incidents in future.

Not a right decision
A geese memorial at Sukhna Lake may not be a right decision. A tibute could be given by reintroducing geese, ducks and by arrangements to restore the natural wildlife that inhabited around the area. Further, the money allocated could be used to upgrade the bird sanctuary, pathways in the sanctuary and by providing a small zoo to connect people with the wildlife. They should also install more notice boards and hoardings with messages for the public on how to live in harmony with wildlife and how to save natural resources and environment.

No harm in setting up memorial
There is no harm to raise a small memorial for the geese or their stautes or models at Sukhna Lake to keep their memory afresh in the minds of walkers and tourists.

No need for memorial
The proposal for geese memorial is not worth consideration at all as it may be a clear cut violation of city architect Le Corbusier’s ‘Edict of Chandigarh’. It would be better to allow the geese to live freely in their natural habitat at the lake.

Set up a bird reserve
The best tribute to the culled geese would be to build a bird reserve at the end of the Lake, near the forest area.

Build a classic monument
A simple and classic monument in the memory of the culled 110 geese should be built at Sukhna Lake. It is a welcome step. Let students, public and ardent lovers of water birds contribute their bit for this cause.

Need to reintroduce geese
Let us create a healthy ecological balance by reintroducing geese at Sukhna Lake and providing them a natural habitat. No visitor must be allowed to feed them. It requires no big amount of money.

Use funds for spreading awareness
Rather than setting up a geese memorial at Sukhna lake, such funds should be used to develop an educational and awareness programme to stop cruelty against birds and animals.

Memorial should be another attraction
Geese were the absolute charm of Sukhna lake. They were a major attraction for visitors. People should not be so selfish and deny a geese memorial at the lake. By reintroducing ducks we can bring back the glory of lake, but what about those geese that were killed under the threat of bird flu. In my point of view, the memorial should be established in such a way that it became another attraction, drawing more and more tourists.

Don’t waste money on memorial
The administration should reintroduce geese and construct natural habitats for migratory birds. Ensure more cleaniliness of existing toilets and construct new ones at short gaps to help senior citizens instead of wasting money on geese memorial.

Create better environment
The Chandigarh Administration should create a better environment for all habitants of Sukhna Lake and its surroundings rather than setting up a geese memorial.

Spend money to improve facilities
The amount to be spent on geese memorial could be used to provide better facilities to visitors to Sukhna Lake. The UT Administration should reintroduce geese at the lake and ‘Edicts of Chandigarh’ laid down by city’s architect Le Corbusier, should not be ignored.

Upgrade basic amenities
Setting up of geese memorial would serve no purpose. Rather, the money should be spent on upgrading basic amenities like drinking water which is never available in taps installed at Sukhna Lake at every 200metres. There are a few types of exercise equipment installed at the regulatory end of the lake. It would be boon for fitness freaks if the same is upgraded.
