Kanupriya blanks Anusha, wins title

CHANDIGARH: Kanupriya Rajawat dismissed Anusha Verma 6-0 6-0 to clinch the girls'' U-14 title on the concluding day of the STA-AITA Talent Series (TS-7) Tennis Tournament at the Chandigarh Club, Sector 1, here on Friday.

Kanupriya Rajawat dismissed Anusha Verma 6-0 6-0 to clinch the girls' U-14 title on the concluding day of the STA-AITA Talent Series (TS-7) Tennis Tournament at the Chandigarh Club, Sector 1, here on Friday.

Earlier, in the semifinals, Kanupriya downed Anoushka Sharma 6-1 6-3, while Anusha registered a 6-3 3-6 7-5 win over Vanisha Sharma. 

The boys' U-14 title went to Navya Verma after he drubbed Lakshya Gupta 6-1 6-2 in the final.

In the girls' U-16 category, Aditi Singh packed off Ridhima Mehra 6-3 6-2 to claim the title, while Jitin Chetry downed Abhay Mohan 6-3 6-2 to lift the boys' U-16 trophy. 

Chetry, earlier, rallied from a set down to beat Nishank Thakur 4-6 6-3 6-3. Abhay humbled Aryan Thakur 6-3 6-3.

Tennis meet from today 

Roots Tennis Academy, Zirakpur, will host All India Ranking Tennis Championship from June 30. The competition will be held in the U-12 and U-16 age groups. More than 150 boys and girls from the region will compete in the championship.
