A pall of gloom descended on Pawan Sharma’s house in Sector 27, who, along with his nephew and two others, had mysteriously gone missing on January 14 in Ludhiana, when his family today received information about the recovery of all four bodies from the Sidhwan canal at Gurthali village near Sahnewal. The victims' families are in a state of shock.

The victims, identified as Pawan Sharma, his nephew Jayant Rishi (24), both residents of Sector 27, Prabhjot Singh, a resident of Sector 42, and Ram Chaudhary, a PG resident in Sector 23, had gone to Ludhiana on January 14 and were supposed to return the same day. However, they did not return following which the family had lodged a missing report in Ludhiana. A family friend said Pawan’s elder brother Pankaj received a call today that the Ertiga car in which all four had gone to Ludhiana had been fished out and the decomposed bodies recovered. “Pankaj and the youngest brother, Raman, immediately left for the spot where the bodies were found,” said a relative.

The victim’s family suspects something fishy as the canal from where the car was recovered was searched by divers. "It is surprising that suddenly the car was recovered from the canal,” said a family member. Pawan’s wife Pooja was inconsolable after hearing the news about the bodies having being recovered from the canal. Pawan is survived by his wife, daughter Tamana, who has appeared for the Class XII examinations, and son Manav, a Class XI student. Pawan’s nephew Jayant, who hails from Fazilka, was working with him in a business. He was staying with Pawan.
