Labourer dies, friend injured as bike skids

A labourer was killed and another injured seriously in a road accident near Aero City, Sector 82, here today.

The deceased, identified as Sector 79-based Omkar (24), a native of Uttar Pradesh, and his friend Devraj kept lying unconscious on the road for around two hours after their motorcycle hit the footpath.

“Devraj informed his brother about the accident around 2 am after regaining consciousness following which they were immediately shifted to a hospital,” said the police.

Omkar had gone to meet his brother at Sector 82 along with Devraj on a motorcycle last night. “While returning around midnight, their motorcycle skidded and hit the footpath following which both of them fell unconscious. Around 2 am, Devraj regained consciousness and called up his brother. The victims’ kin immediately shifted them to the Civil Hospital at Phase 6, Mohali, where Omkar was declared brought dead,” said the police.

Devraj was referred to the PGI, where his condition is stated to be critical.

Both victims were labourers.

The police have initiated inquest proceedings under Section 174 of the CrPC at the Sohana police station.

The postmortem will be conducted tomorrow.
