Chandigarh, September 19
A 43-year-old labourer was found murdered in a forest area in Sector 38 (West). The victim, a resident of Mohali district, had injury marks on his head.
Sources said the police received information about a body lying in a pool of blood near Shahpur Colony in Sector 38 (West). A motorcycle was also found near the body.
Police teams rushed to the spot and cordoned off the entire area.
The police searched the clothes of the victim and found a registration certificate of the motorcycle, which led to his identification.
“The victim has been identified as Bhupinder Singh, who used to work at construction sites. These days he was working at a site in Sector 38 (West), where construction was going on,” said a police official.
The police said on Monday the victim left the construction site around 6 pm and reached home. Around 8 pm, the victim left his home after informing his son that he would get late. The victim, however, did not return.
The sources said the victim was an alcoholic and it was suspected that he took liquor on Monday night.
“It is assumed that the victim had an altercation with someone who then murdered him,” said a police official.
The autopsy was conducted today by a board of doctors after which the body was handed over to the victim’s kin. “A head injury led to the death of the victim,” the sources said.
The police suspect the victim was attacked with a rod.
The victim is survived by his wife and three children — a 21-year-old daughter and two teenaged sons.
The police have registered a case of murder at the Maloya police station. —TNS
