NSUI wins President, V-P and Secy posts in Panjab University student poll

CHANDIGARH: The National Students Union of India won president, vice-president and secretary positions, while the PUSU won the post of joint secretary in Panjab University Campus Students'' Council elections on Thursday.

The National Students Union of India (NSUI) won president, vice-president and secretary positions in Panjab University Campus Students' Council elections on Thursday.

The Panjab University Students Union (PUSU) won the position of joint secretary.

NSUI leader Jashan Kamboj was elected President, Karanvir S Mahal  the Vice President and Vani Sood Secretary of the council. The post of Joint Secretary was won by Panjab University Students Union's (PUSU) Karanbir S Randhawa.

All 27 candidates were present at Panjab University's gymnasium hall, where votes were counted. Some 15,695 voters across 82 departments voted for the elections.

Voting was held on the PU campus amid tight security as well as for student councils in the respective affiliated colleges in Chandigarh.

Results:  

DAV Sector 10: Vikas, who represented HSA, HPSU and NSUI, wins presidential post.

SD College, Sector 32: Harsh Sharma of SDCU, contesting for president post, wins; Harsh got 1,773 votes, his opponent Dilpreet of SOI alliance got 1,380 votes. 46.7 per cent vote cast was registered in SD College. Out of 6,750 students, only 3,153 voted 

SGGSU, Sector 26:  Sukhvir Singh wins president election. He got 1,381 votes, Tasneem Kaur polled 1,218 votes

MCM DAV, Sector 36: Suchint Kapoor wins president election; Himani Sharma is vice-president; Bahar Hundal is secretary and Shweta is joint secretary. 


PGGC, Sector 11:  Avish Kamboj of INSO wins president election.

PGGC, Sector 46: SOPU candidate Rahul Khera wins presidential election.

The elections were held for the posts of president, vice-president, secretary and joint secretary of the Panjab University Campus Students Council (PUCSC). NOTA (none of the above) was also an option.

There are nine candidates for the post of president, the highest in recent years. Last year, there were seven. For the vice-president’s post, there are six candidates while for the posts of secretary and joint secretary, there are 10 candidates each.

There are two candidates who are contesting all four posts while two are fighting on two posts, which effectively brings down the total number of candidates to 27 as one candidate can be declared winner from one post only.
