A day after dead pigeons and lizards were found in water tanks of the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) by a Heath Department team, Dr Jagat Ram, Director of the premier medical institute, has reportedly issued a show-cause notice to the department.

Of the 600 water tanks, as many as 52 were found open. Today, the team visited residential quarters of the PGI and inspected air coolers. Dr Gaurav Aggarwal, Nodal Officer, UT Health Department, said four notices had been issued, “But we are yet to get any reply,” said Dr Aggarwal.

It is learnt that Rakesh Kashyap, UT Director, Health Services, has spoken to the PGI Director apprising him of the health hazard in the institute. Sources said the matter would be brought to the notice of the Health Secretary during the upcoming meeting.

Dr Jagat Ram said he had told the engineering and administrative wing of the hospital to look into the matter. “I was told about the issue this morning. I have told the department concerned to look into the matter and ensure that such an issue does not crop up in the future,” he said.
