Chandigarh: A resident of Ludhiana was arrested by the Chandigarh Police after he was found in possession of 12.

The police said the accused, identified as Amandeep Singh, was nabbed near the Sector 43 light point. A case has been registered against the accused under the NDPS Act at the Sector 36 police station. TNS

One arrested for stealing cash

Chandigarh: The police have arrested one person for stealing Rs 1.50 lakh in cash from a book binding store at the Industrial Area, Phase I. The complainant, Gopal Singh Rawat of Zirakpur, had alleged that Jatin, a resident of Khuda Lahora, had stolen cash from his store on the night intervening May 19 and 20. Acting on the complaint, a case was registered at the Industrial Area police station. Later, the accused was arrested. TNS

Domestic help booked for theft

Chandigarh: A domestic help has been booked for stealing Rs 50,000 from a house in Burail village. The complainant, Salochna Sharma, stated that her maid, Deep, stole the cash on April 26. The police said the complainant came to know that the maid had stolen the money following which she asked her husband Balbir to return the money. Balbir agreed to return the amount in two days. However, he failed to return it, following which the woman approached the police. A case has been registered against the accused at the Sector 34 police station. TNS

Laptop, cell phones stolen from PG

Chandigarh: A laptop and four mobile phones were stolen from a paying guest accommodation in Sector 19 on May 20. The complainant, Deepika Sharma, reported that the theft took place in the wee hours when she and her three roommates were sleeping. A case has been registered in this connection at the Sector 19 police station. TNS

Minor boy conned at bank

Chandigarh: The police have booked two unknown persons for duping a minor boy of Rs 30,000 at a bank in Burail village. In her complaint to the police, Hira Devi stated that her son Sachin Kumar (13) had gone to deposit money at Punjab National Bank on April 12. While he was filling in the deposit form, two persons approached him and offered to help in depositing the money. The boy gave the money to the accused, who managed to escape from the spot. The complaint regarding the incident was made recently, following which a case was registered at the Sector 34 police station on May 20. TNS

Drowning: Zero FIR lodged 

Panchkula: A day after a 22-year-old boy from Ambala drowned in the Tikkar Tal lake at Morni, the Panchkula police on Monday lodged a zero FIR and have further sent it to the Ambala police. Mahmood Khan, SHO, Chandimandir police station, said the boy’s family had lodged a complaint in Shahzadpur in Ambala, stating  that four youths had forcibly taken their son to Morni and murdered him by pushing him into the lake. “As per law, were have lodged a zero FIR in Panchkula and sent the matter to the Ambala police for further investigation,” he added. Meanwhile, the post-mortem examination of the deceased was not carried out on Monday due to issues pertaining to the lodging of the FIR and jurisdiction. Charanjit Singh, a resident of Shahzadpur in Ambala, had come to Morni Hills with his friends, where he reportedly drowned. The family suspect it to be a case of murder. TNS

Man held for raping minor 

Lalru: The Lelhi police have arrested a man of Dappar Colony for allegedly raping his 14-year-old stepdaughter. The accused has been identified as 35-year-old Javed Ali. The incident came to light on Sunday when the victim opened up about being sexually abused by her stepfather for the past several months. The victim, along with her mother Shabham, a daily wager, approached the police following which a case was registered under 376 of the IPC and relevant Sections of the POSCO Act.  The victim told the police that her mother was away when he allegedly raped her on May 15. Phul Chand, in-charge, Lelhi police post, said the minor girl alleged that her stepfather used to rape her in the absence of her mother and also issued threats.  He further stated that the victim’s mother, Shabnam, had divorced her first husband four years ago and had married Javed Ali.  OC  

Open-air gym inaugurated

Chandigarh: Mayor Davesh Moudgil inaugurated an open-air gym at Cycas Palm Garden in Sector 15-C here on Monday. Area councillor Raj Bala Malik, other councillors and officials were also present on the occasion. Raj Bala said the total cost of the open air gym comes around Rs 2.75 lakh, including provision of latest equipment i.e. push chair, sub board functions, space walker, seated pedal trainer, wab board, elliptical cross trainer, parallel bars, taiji wheel, riding trainer and stepper. Mobile phone snatched

Mohali: Two unidentified bike-borne miscreants allegedly snatched a mobile phone from a factory worker in Mohali. According to sources, the incident took place around 8 pm on Sunday. The victim, Mohinder Singh (30), was talking on his mobile phone while walking to his residence after his shift at a factory in the Industrial Area, when two men on a motorcycle at the PTL light point asked him for directions. Sources said the men then snatched the mobile phone from the victim and sped away. The victim submitted a complaint at the Phase I police station, but an FIR was yet to be registered. In the complaint, the victim said he was not able to note down the registration number of the motorcycle. TNS
